Sonda for Adults
We provide assessment and treatment for the following concerns:
Language / Speech Difficulties - aphasia, apraxia or dysarthria
These difficulties may occur following a stroke / brain injury or alongside other new or lifelong diagnoses and might involve having trouble understanding others or being able to express yourself clearly and meaningfully.
Voice Difficulties - aphonia/dysphonia
These difficulties may occur due to a number of health or life factors and require careful and accurate management in order to ensure a return to a voice that meets your needs.
Swallowing Difficulties - dysphagia
These difficulties may occur due to a number of neurological or medical reasons and require assessment and management in order to ensure you can participate in safe and enjoyable mealtimes.
Neurodegenerative conditions - e.g., Parkinson's Disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy
Secondary to these diagnoses, you may experience a range of impacts to communication or swallowing which require support to manage.
Mealtime Management Concerns
Mealtime management plans are sometimes required to support individuals who are receiving care from a service and who may require modifications to diet and fluids.
Voice not aligning with your gender identity - gender affirming care
If you are a transwoman and your voice is no longer aligning with your gender identity, this can be frustrating and disrupting to your goals of being able to be fully who you are. Voice training can support you to adapt your voice to suit your needs.
Social communication / functional communication skills
These may occur following a stroke or brain injury or alongside other new or lifelong diagnoses such as Intellectual Disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Intervention, developing strategies and augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) systems may address these concerns.
Stuttering - fluency disorder
This may have been a lifelong concern or something you have developed more recently. Either way this can be frustrating and addressing this concern can make a real difference for your confidence and the clarity of your speech.
Chronic Cough / Breathing Disorders (e.g., vocal cord dysfunction)
These frustrating difficulties can be addressed and in many cases eliminated through a range of therapy techniques. Chronic cough and breathing disorders are a special interest for Sonda's owner, Catherine.
